What is Viscose Yarn?
Viscose is a man-made fiber- recycled fiber- and is the most important member of the Rayon’s fibers family.
Advantages of Viscose Yarn
Softness
Viscose yarn has an innate softness that rivals other fibers. This silky texture allows for a gentle feel when crafted into garments, making them extremely comfortable to wear.
Breathability
One of Viscose's standout features is its breathability. Despite looking somewhat like silk, it allows for superior ventilation than its counterpart — a much-loved characteristic in warmer climates.
Sheen
Viscose yarn also has an unmistakable sheen that adds a touch of luxury to any garment. It's this luster that initially led to its comparison with silk, as it imparts a predictable glow to the knitwear.
Absorbency
Viscose's high absorbency lends itself well to dyeing. It takes on and retains dye strikingly well, allowing for vibrant, full-bodied colors that stay true for longer.
Drapability
Viscose yarn yields an excellent drape, elevated by its slight weight. Garments made from Viscose elegantly follow the contours of the body, offering a flattering fit and appealing look.
Sustainability
Particularly with recycled Viscose, the fiber has a clear advantage in terms of sustainability. The recycling process greatly lessens the environmental impact of Viscose production.
Application of Viscose Yarn
Apparel and Clothing
Viscose Fiber is a popular choice for crafting a range of clothing items. Its smooth texture and ability to mimic the luxurious feel of silk make it ideal for creating dresses, blouses, shirts, and skirts. Additionally, its high absorbency allows for vibrant dyeing, resulting in colorful and eye-catching garments.
Blend Fabrics
Viscose Fiber is often blended with other fibers like cotton, polyester, or elastane to enhance various characteristics. These blends can offer improved durability, stretch, and shape retention.
Non-Woven Fabrics
Viscose is employed in producing non-woven fabrics used in items like wet wipes, medical supplies, and cleaning cloths due to its absorbent nature.
Artificial Silk and Imitation Leather
Viscose is also used in creating artificial silk fabrics, imitating the luxurious look of silk. Additionally, it can be utilized in the production of imitation leather materials.
Yarn Production
Viscose Fiber plays a vital role in yarn manufacturing, contributing to the creation of a variety of yarns that are subsequently used in knitting, weaving, and other textile processes.
Types Of Common Viscose Yarn Specifications

Sourcing Raw Materials
Wood pulp is harvested from fast-growing trees. Sustainable sourcing is crucial to minimize environmental impact.
Dissolving Cellulose
The wood pulp is treated with chemicals to dissolve the cellulose, creating a viscous solution.
Filtering and Degassing
The solution is filtered to remove impurities and degassed to eliminate air bubbles that could weaken the fibers.

Spinning
The viscous solution is forced through a spinneret—a device with tiny holes—creating long filaments of regenerated cellulose.
Coagulation
These filaments are then immersed in a coagulating bath to solidify them into fibers.
Washing and Drying
The fibers are washed to remove any residual chemicals and then dried.
Spinning into Yarn
Finally, the dried fibers are spun into yarn that can be used for knitting or weaving.
